Most Wanted #9: ZGMF-1017 DJINN

I'll admit, for a long time I just didn't care much for Gundam Seed or Gundam Seed Destiny. They seemed like total ripoffs of the original Gundam 0079 story (and they still are exactly that), but after finally settling in to watch them they are also so much more than that. I hadn't planned on getting any model kits from the Seed lineup, but one day was out at the shop with a friend and decided to pick up a Strike Rouge model based solely on how awesome the Ootori looked. Since then, I've found that I love the look of the Seed model kits, especially with their fantastic use of decals/stickers and other markings. All that said, I wouldn't mind seeing some more Seed kits hitting the shelf in Master Grade form.

The Djinn (sometimes written Ginn) is the grunt suit of the ZAFT forces, and like many of their suits is very reminiscent of the original Zeon designs from Mobile Suit Gundam. Most notably, that Zaku style mono-eye, which is always awesome looking in a model kit (especially when it works with an LED). It's got a great shape with shoulder armor looking like folded wings, trim on the head and skirt faulds that really have the opportunity to pop in model form, and a really exaggerated crest which actually seems to work visually (it doesn't make any kind of practical sense, however).

The Djinn also has plenty of options for weapons. It has a sword -- like a medieval arming sword -- which is flipping awesome. But it can also be equipped with long- and short-ranged missile launchers, machine guns, sniper rifles, ion cannons, and recoil-less rifles.

Finally there are about a dozen different variations of Djinn that can all be built off the same frame. This allows for many opportunities for re-colors and Mobile Suit Variations that Bandai seems to be ever so fond of. The Djinn isn't as iconic as the Zaku, but Seed is one of the more popular gundam series, so I feel it would be nice to get some more representation.

This particular mobile suit seems more likely to be produced in the new RE/100 line than the Master Grade line. I think for this kit I wouldn't mind that, but I'd always prefer an MG to an RE.
