MG Aegis Gundam

The Aegis Gundam was Athrun Zala's first mobile suit in the series Gundam Seed. Named the GAT-X303 and designed and built by the Earth Alliance, the Aegis was one of four Gundams stolen by ZAFT's La Creuset team. The Aegis was destroyed in a duel with the Strike Gundam.

I bought this kit not because I was particularly fond of the look of the mobile suit. In fact, I had not really had any interest in the suit at all before buying it. But, before this kit, I built two Unicorn Gundams, and then two gundams from Gundam Wing, which all feature the same inner frame and basic design. So I grabbed this kit just looking for something different, and boy is it different.

The Aegis boasts a transformation in which in can change into a kind of squid-shaped mobile armor, and this model boasts the same transformation (I hate the transformation and it seems likely I'll break something while doing it, so it's not pictured). Therefore, there is a lot of unique construction to be seen on this kit, which allows the arms and legs to transform into identical limbs for the mobile armor mode.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with the kit. The color is great, the over-pronounced arm and toe spikes really make a statement, and the rifle is pretty awesome. There are quite a few gunpla that I don't keep on regular display on my bookcases, and I expected this to be one of them. But it has a home where I proudly show it off.
